Day 38 - Olympia WA - 5801 Miles

Still here. They may be tired of us but it will take more than subtle hints to get rid of us. Actually we plan on heading out to the Pacific coast on Sunday, but until then this is home.

When I heard they finally got Terry to try the ATV, I had to go down to the field to check. I expected to find mangled bodies and a riderless ATV going around in circles, but all survived.

If the photo had been pulled from a funny YouTube video, this would be the point you would think, "Why didn't the idiot just get out of her way?"

We also visited the same Indian casino we went to four years ago. Once every four years is just about right. I think I would have had just about as much fun throwing $10 out the window as we drove by. The only enjoyable part was people watching. Regulars at an Indian casino are an interesting breed. I think Indian casinos have more walkers and oxygen tanks per capita than any place on earth.

Yesterday we drove north along the Hood Canal for some sightseeing.

On the way back we stopped for lunch at the Geoduck Restaurant and  Lounge. (It's pronounced GOO-ee-duck.) I had never heard of geoducks until the night before when Mick was telling us of a friend who's father was big into digging clams and oysters. His ultimate goal, though, was to get a geoduck. He has been trying for years and has yet to get get one. It seems geoducks are the Holy Grail of shellfish. He described them as "huge and really, really disgusting looking." I figured he was also going to tell us he's seen Bigfoot run through his field, but apparently they really exist. If someone were to physically describe a geoduck, 99.9% would use exactly the same term. I'm not going to do that here. If you wish, you can Google images of one and decide for yourself.

In any case we couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat at the Geoduck and it had a great view of the canal. Oddly, they didn't sever geoduck but had great clamstrips (and beer).

Today we drove to Gig Harbor. It was nice but a little too touristy for my taste. We did get our first decent look at Mt. Rainier, though, and a great bowl of clam chowder (and beer).
