Day 11 - Rapid City SD - 2561 Miles

Today we wandered the mountains west of Rapid City and visited Deadwood and Sturgis.

Deadwood was a disappointment. It lacked authenticity. There were still old buildings, but they were filled with T-shirt shops, casinos, and ice cream stores. Places looked like individual storefronts from the outside, but inside the interior walls for many places had been gutted and everything was combined. We did get a picture of Wild Gary Guenther and Calamity Terry at the Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane grave sites.

We found that Sturgis SD on a Thursday afternoon in early June is a very quiet place - just the way I like it.

Terry took a picture of the baddest badass in Knuckle Saloon, a Sturgis biker bar.

He was the only badass there.

Also saw something in a vending machine I haven't seen for decades.
